Cairo: A baby boy was born in Yemen with one eye in a very rare world case, media reported. The baby had also one eye socket and a single optical nerve, Yemeni journalist Karim Zarai, who posted the child’s photos, said.
The birth took place at a hospital last Wednesday in Al Bayda governorate in central Yemen, according to him. “This is a very rare case that was known in Greek mythology,” Zarai was quoted as saying. The baby died seven hours later after his birth, local sources said. There was no immediate comment from health authorities in war-devastated Yemen.
The world saw just six such cases in about five centuries, media reports said. The baby, born at Al-Hilal Al-Talabi Hospital in Yemen, had an eye hole and a visual vein on his face. Pictures of the baby were shared by Yemeni journalist Karim Zari, in which one eye of the baby can be clearly seen.
Local sources said the baby died seven hours after birth, but there was no immediate comment from health officials in war-torn Yemen. According to media reports, the world has seen only six such cases in almost five centuries, the first such birth was recorded in 1665.
It should be noted that on March 7, in the Indian state of Bihar, a strange baby was born to a woman whose face looked like a frog. The newborn’s head, hands, ears, eyes and nose were just like a frog. The newborn was born at the community health center in the Guruathana area, but died shortly after birth.
